You’re raising a family, showing up every day for your home, your kids, your partner—but behind the scenes, you may have stepped back from your career, paused your income potential, or taken a hit emotionally, physically, and financially in the name of motherhood. That labor has value—and too often, it goes unrecognized.

This session is about understanding how family law can help protect that sacrifice—specifically through a postnuptial agreement. Whether you’re in a loving, supportive relationship or simply want more financial clarity and fairness, this is your invitation to explore the power of putting motherhood on paper.

We’ll focus primarily on financial assets, including businesses, retirement accounts, and property. While child custody, visitation, and support can’t be enforced through a postnup (because the state has a vested interest in protecting children), we’ll touch on related issues—like negotiating spousal support to ensure you can continue caregiving if you’ve been the primary parent.

This isn’t about planning for the worst—it’s about being prepared, protected, and empowered.

Meet Jenni:

Jenni Tynes is Of Counsel at Kaufman & Canoles in Virginia Beach, where she focuses exclusively on family law. A Virginia Beach native and Kellam High School graduate, Jenni went on to earn degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond School of Law. She practiced family law for several years at top firms in the D.C. Metro area before returning home to raise her family by the beach.

With deep experience in separation agreements, custody, support, and postnuptial planning, Jenni brings a clear, compassionate voice to even the most personal legal matters. She’ll be leading Session 3, focused on why mothers especially should consider a postnup—putting a value on the physical, mental, and financial impact of pregnancy and childrearing, and advocating for equity while the relationship is still strong.
